GTAV players recently received the highly anticipated 1.08 update, which added Heists to the online
mode at long last. However, it seems like GTAV Next-Gen was also
affected in a strange way by this update – it looks like the game’s
graphics has been downgraded on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, as
documented by Spanish YouTube channel ElAnalistaDeBits in a dedicated video.
We have included some of the most significant comparison screenshots between version 1.00 (the launch one) and the latest 1.08, from the single player mode.
The first set compares Parallax Occlusion on the beach, with footsteps in the sand looking much less pronounced now.

Perhaps the reduced effect is even more noticeable on these train tracks, though.

Another aspect which has been visibly downgraded is the draw distance of GTAV Next-Gen. As you can see, everything in the 1.08 screenshot is more blurry and less detailed on the horizon.

Even Anisotropic Filtering seems to have been reduced with the latest patch.

That’s not even all, as collisions have reportedly taken a hit too in
terms of visual damage to cars, though you might want to see the video for that as a direct comparison is much more difficult to accomplish.
It’s presently unclear if Rockstar Games did this on purpose in order to achieve some kind of performance benefit (though none have been reported so far), or perhaps it was just some kind of mistake in the code. Naturally, gamers have already voiced their disappointment on Reddit and various forums.
Hopefully this will get fixed soon, but even so, if you really want to see Grand Theft Auto V in all its glory then you’re probably waiting for the PC version, scheduled for release on April 14. The first screenshots shared by Rockstar already show significant improvements on all accounts and the modding community will surely push its graphics even further over time.
