game hardware sales and December 2014 was no exception. With December
2014 worldwide hardware sales in lets take a quick look at how well each
platform sold. December is a five week period that runs from the week
ending December 6, 2014 until the week ending January 3, 2015.
The PlayStation 4 was the top selling console of the month selling 3,204,402 units. The temporary Xbox One price cut in the US helped make it the second bestselling home console of the month with sales of 2,284,298. The Wii U saw sales more than double month-over-month to 1,148,210.
Taking a look at the eighth generation handhelds, the 3DS outsold the PlayStation Vita by more than seven times. Nintendo managed to sell 2,961,316 3DS' for the month, while Sony sold 395,222 PlayStation Vita's.
Finally, there is the sales for the last generation home consoles. Sales for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were almost identical for a second straight month. The Xbox 360 sold 592,023 units, while the PlayStation 3 sold 614,565 units. The Wii lagged behind selling just 83,579 units."
