The Xbox One will never surpass the PS4 during the current-gen
console wars in terms of total sales. Looking at the latest numbers
available, there is no doubt this whole generation will belong to the
PS4, as the Xbox One is just too far behind. Here is why looking at the
math and being realistic.
Now think about this for one minute. The Xbox One is 7 million units behind at the time of writing. It would be delusional to think the Xbox One could actually overtake the PS4 at this point, or any point during this generation.
Let us speculate that this generation will last 7 years and at the very best the Xbox One sells 100k units from now on until the end of the generation while the PS4 sells 0 units. Not a single one.
In the scenario:
6 years x 12 months = 72
72 x 100 0000 = 7.2 million
So if Sony never sells one more console this generation and the Xbox One sells 100k each month for 6 years, they will finally just equal Sony….
Now think about it, how can anyone possibly imagine the Xbox One actually surpassing the PS4 in sales? It is delusional at best.
The Xbox One outsold the PS4 for the first time in the month of November in the UK and US due to the Black Friday deals. Microsoft attributes the Xbox One’s recent boost in sales to a new batch of bundles featuring Assassin’s Creed Unity, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Sunset Overdrive, as well as a limited-time holiday price drop, which lowers the console’s price to $349.99.
This does not even take into account that Sony is still selling a ton of consoles worldwide and has a superior exclusive line-up for 2015.

Industry analyst Michael Pachter talks about Sony’s exclusive games line-up in 2015:
“I think it’s the quantity of quality games. Normally, you expect kind of one game in the Spring, one or two in the Fall, but what do you have, six big titles, it’s probably doubled.
I don’t know what Microsoft has planned but I will be willing to bet that it’s not this many. I am surprised because I really thought that manufacturers won’t take the risk of developing for one console and they are taking it.
You guys got your s**t together early in the cycle [referring to Sony]. That is where Nintendo right now is suffering because they still don’t have the quantity of exclusives to drive their console and you guys have this plan. It’s peaking next year and that’s exactly where you want to be. It’s great and impressive.” – Source
Microsoft needs Sony to completely drop the ball, not sell one more console and have 0 games coming out for the foreseeable future to have a slight chance. This is not happening and neither is any form of a comeback.
Closing statements
Are the exclusive PS4 games coming in 2015 another nail in the coffin for the Xbox One or can it still make a comeback? Do you REALLY think it is possible for the Xbox One to overtake the PS4 in total sales? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.
Sales – The Xbox One is just too far behind
Just looking at the stats it seems that the Xbox One is just too far behind. Microsoft’s option finally broken the 9 million units sold mark, reaching 9,133,686 in lifetime sales and has shipped nearly 10 million units. I say “finally”, as Sony already announced the 10 million units sold worldwide four months ago, on 12 August 2014. Furthermore, the PS4 has now sold over 16 million units worldwide, cementing a dominating lead of 7 million units. Now think about this for one minute. The PS4 exclusive game line-up is just too strong
Although Microsoft might have released arguably better exclusives this year, Sony is striking back with a powerful blow in 2015. One needs to look no further than the Street Fighter V exclusivity deal, The Order 1886, Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, Until Dawn and more.
