Sony takes a clever stab at Xbox One fans with Emagon

Sony has taken a sneaky, clever stab at Xbox One fans with the first teaser of their mysterious project, Emagon. Here is how they have done it and what we think Emagon (which Sony calls “PlayStation’s best kept secret”) might actually be.

A clever stab at certain Xbox One fans – Anagrams for the win

For readers who might not know, an anagram is a type of word play which is done by rearranging the letters of a word of phrase to produce a new word or phrase, using all the original letters only once.
Emagon’s anagram is “No Game”, which I believe refers to certain Xbox One fans who have been trolling gaming forums. We all know these types of fans, the ones that come onto the forums or any article regarding the PlayStation 4 (PS4) or Xbox One and say that the opposing console has “no games coming out” or for example, “the PS4/ Xbox One has no games to play”. These fans, which are on both sides of the console war, are but a vocal minority. However, it is my belief that Emagon is just a codename of a project that cleverly taunts the Xbox One.

Emagon can also mean “Game On”, which does make sense due to the fact that the PlayStation is now 20 years old. The PlayStation Blog post where Emagon is teased directly refers to the PS1’s release in 1994 as well as the PS brand’s 20 year anniversary this month. Although mysterious, I have a good idea of what Emagon might actually be.

Emagon – a game to showcase project Morpheus

I believe Emagon will be a completely new Intellectual Property (IP) that showcases the power of Sony’s Virtual Reality (VR) headset, Project Morpheus. In the Emagon teaser, there are more than enough hints towards a VR game.
The Emagon video teaser above comes from the Spanish version of the PlayStation Blog. Therefore, the voice-over is in Spanish too. Thankfully, for those of us who do not have a working knowledge of the Spanish language, a user on NeoGAF has translated it for us:
20 years. It’s a lot of time. Look around you and see everything you’ve obtained. You’ve ruled in infinite places, you’ve conquered and freed. You’ve built and destroyed. You’ve been the light against the darkness. However, this time is different; this time, it’s real. For the first time, your actions has real consequence
